If you don’t know and if you have never owned a home, condo or townhouse, Proposition 13 holds the taxes you pay on that property to the amount you paid for the property when you bought it, limiting the amount they can increase your taxes.

Under Proposition 13, all real property has established base year values, a restricted rate of increase on assessments of no greater than 2% each year, and a limit on property taxes to 1% of the assessed value (plus additional voter-approved taxes). This statement is from hwww.sccassessor.org/faq/understanding-proposition-13

If nothing else, that is one of the great benefits you have here in California.

If Proposition 13 were to be removed, property taxes for everyone that owns a property at would go up and in many cases way up.

Now you may think, well I am a renter, why should I care.

Think about it, if the owner of your property has to pay more in taxes, that owner going have to make that up in rents.

So, it will in a roundabout way affect you too.

If you don’t care and like having the California Legislature pass bills that, have you pay more, than do nothing or if you care then call your Assembly person and tall them to oppose ACA 13

Here is an article from The Orange County Register going over Proposition 13 and the ACA 13, the introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment

Less than two weeks ago, radical progressives in the California Legislature launched the most brazen sneak attack on California’s iconic Proposition 13 in its 45-year history. Assemblyman Christopher Ward, backed by the new Speaker of the Assembly, Robert Rivas, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 13 (ACA 13). It would amend the constitution to make it easier to raise taxes, by making it harder to pass citizens’ initiatives that seek to enforce Proposition 13’s two-thirds vote requirement for local special tax increases.

The specific target of ACA 13 is a citizens’ initiative backed both by taxpayer organizations and the business community. The Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act (TPA) has already qualified for the November 2024 ballot, and polling shows it to be popular with voters. The TPA closes several loopholes created by the courts that have allowed special interests to work with local governments to raise taxes with a simple majority vote instead of the two-thirds vote required by Proposition 13.

In my opinion, this is very important, and you need to act as soon as possible.

You need to stop the California Legislature and governing bodies change the rules like this one that will have a major effect on your lives.
