I personally do not support all the wars and the wars our nation has and is supporting.

But those that served, and are serving, do what are leaders wanted them to do to support our nation and our rights. Many people will travel, spend time with the family and enjoy the time off.

But people need to remember what the day is about and why we need to remember.

It is a day to remember those who died will serving in the U.S. military.

The holiday stems from the American Civil War, where more than 600,000 service members, both Union and Confederate, died, and was then known as Decoration Day.

In 1911, the Indianapolis 500 held its inaugural race on May 30, drawing 85,000 spectators.
Armistice Day became a national holiday by 1938 and was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

As time when on Decoration Day become known as Memorial Day.

An act of Congress changed Memorial Day from May 30th to the last Monday in May in 1971.
In the mid-20th century, a few businesses began to open on the holiday.
